Advice for cardholders

Lost your payment card?

In Finland, you should immediately report a lost payment card to the blocking service number 020 333. Outside Finland, please call +358 20 333. The blocking service is available 24 hours a day, every day of the week. It is recommended that you save the number of the blocking service on your mobile.

The responsibility for any potential misuse of the payment card after it has been reported lost is transferred to the card issuer. Even if found, using the payment card is absolutely prohibited after it has been reported lost.

A quick guide to payment card transactions

  • If you suspect that the information security of your payment card has been compromised, contact the payment card issuer immediately.
  • Frequently monitor your online bank account information, and inform the payment card issuer of any transactions or withdrawals you do not recognise.
  • Save all receipts for your transactions at least until you receive your credit card invoice. They are useful in clearing up any uncertain issues.
  • Always use your hand or wallet to cover the ATM keypad when you type in your personal identification number.
  • When you shop online, we recommend that you use online stores you are familiar with, or ones that utilise payment card authentication services.

Online transactions

A payment card is a secure payment method for all transactions made online as long as it is used as carefully as for any other payment. The authentication service solutions Verified by Visa and MasterCard SecureCode provide reliable authentication services to all parties involved in online transactions.

  • Only use your card over a secure connection (Verified by Visa, MasterCard SecureCode, or SSL).
  • Make sure your payment card data is properly encrypted before you send any information online. Make sure that a complete key icon or a locked padlock icon appears at the bottom of the browser window.
  • Also check the website address: the prefix https:// is more secure than http://.
  • Never send payment card data via e-mail.
  • Read the delivery terms and return policy before you complete the transaction.
  • Save information about the transaction on your computer or on a printout in case you need to refer to it later. If potential reclaim letters (e.g. purchase from a foreign merchant) are processed through Luottokunta, the information you have saved or printed out will be required.
